Cig Mynydd Cymru (Welsh Mountain Meat) is a co-operative of 5 farming families from the South Wales Valleys who have formed a partnership to sell their Welsh Black cattle and Welsh Mountain lamb. One of the families farm organically and is able to offer organically reared beef and lamb.
The partners have purchased the Butcher’s shop in Treharris where the locally produced beef and lamb is readily available. All the beef is traditionally matured on the bone for approximately 3 weeks to ensure excellent flavour and tenderness.
TRUE TASTE GOLD AWARD
A rack of lamb won a GOLD award at the 2012 Wales True Taste ceremony in Llandudno. The rack was prepared for judging by Steve Davies from a lamb reared at Penrhiw Farm. A tremendous result and one the company is rightly proud of !
Cig Mynydd Cymru is based at 16B Perrott St in Treharris. The butcher's shop was purchased in Oct 2006 when the partnership was formed. The shop is managed by Steve Davies. We sell a full range of meat products but specialise in the butchering of Welsh Black beef from cattle raised on the members' farms & South Wales Mountain lambs.
Five farming families make up the Cig Mynydd Cymru partnership. They are Mike and Cath Roberts from Penrhiwgwaith; Sue Williams and her family from Garth Farm; Lorraine Howells from Cwm carno; Huw Williams and his mother in law, Pat Wigley, from Glynmil / Cwm Blacks and the organic farmers John and Celia Thomas from Penrhiw.
